Nopal cactus leaves?
« on: March 11, 2010, 09:09:40 PM »
Does anybody know if any of the Mexican grocers carry nopal cactus leaves?  I just read a blurb about breakfast tacos in Austin and they mentioned nopalitos and cheese...yum...drool.

I have no idea if you need dried, canned, or fresh for your recipe, but MexGrocer has a variety.

I finally came back to follow up on this thread...sheesh.

I've never seen violet tomatillos before!  Which kind are you growing?

Last summer I brought some seeds home and managed to get a few plants going, but I didn't start them early enough and didn't get enough fruit to make salsa with, which is what I really wanted. :(  I have a lot more tiny plants started now, and if I can just keep the g*d-d****d snails from eating all the seedlings before I can even plant them out, I might have a chance this year.

All of my green chile and serrano seeds seem to be duds, though. :(
