London Area Book Club, May 2010
« on: March 06, 2010, 06:39:55 PM »
We have a tentative date for our next London Book Club meetup and are open to meeting spots.  Right now our date is 7 May, 3 PM and meeting at Waterloo station's downstairs Starbucks, perhaps to move on to a different location after everyone gets there.

We will be reading The Winter Queen by Boris Akunin at Mr A's request.

Quote
This is the first book featuring Erast Fandorin, the famous gentleman sleuth. Moscow 1876. A young law student commits suicide in broad daylight in Moscow's Alexander Gardens. But this is no ordinary death, for the young man was the son of an influential industrialist and has left a considerable fortune. Erast Fandorin, a hotheaded new recruit to the Criminal Investigation Department, is assigned to the case. Brilliant, young, and sophisticated, Fandorin embarks on an investigation that will take him from the palatial mansions of Moscow to the seedy backstreets of London in his hunt for the conspirators behind this mysterious death.

It's to be made into a film this year starring Milla Jovovich and Anton Yelchin (the guy who plays Checkov in the new Star Trek).

Even if you don't manage to finish the book, you're welcome to come along for the meetup.  New members welcome.

All comers are welcome!

This one sneaked up on me.  Is everyone finished with the book?

Okay, we've decided to push this one back to 22 May unless anyone who was planning on attending has any major objections.  Same time, same place, same book, different date.

Bummer - might be in US on the 22nd, but you're right. It did sneak up on me and I didn't even start the book.

Next time, I guess.

Jenn, I hope you didn't take time off specifically to have us shift things around.

I just bought it and I think it's going to be slow going because I am trying to get used to new reading glasses and can only manage a few pages at a time.  Therefore, I'm grateful for the extension until the 22nd.  See you then!

Well, it looks like we might be a bit warmer for this book club meeting than the last time.   ;D

I look forward to seeing everyone on Saturday!
