Totally stuck, American husband refusing me a divorce. :(

Hi all,

I got married in January 2007 to an American.  We were married in Chicago, but immediately after the wedding we were staying in the UK.  We have been separated 2 and a half years, and he's holding the divorce over me. He went back to America in August of 2007. He wants to get back together, and is refusing to do anything about it.

What can I do from over here?

I'm so depressed about it, and I can't get on with my life, it was a essy breakup and he left me with thousands of debt too.

Can anyone help?

I would suggest that you contact a family law attorney in that jurisdiction.  Especially with a lot of debt involved you'll want to make sure that you have an attorney.  Here's a link to the Illinois State bar and their page that is geared toward helping the public locate a lawyer or answer legal questions in that state:
