When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down ‘happy’. They told me I didn’t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn’t understand life. ~ John Lennon

Having watched the video--it doesn't seem like it will be that difficult for experienced drivers.  Most drivers are already used to paying attention to signs in order to get from Point A to Point B....so it seems like this added bit is more or less for new drivers.

But then again, I can only speak from experience of driving in the US.  I would guess it couldn't be that different in the UK (in terms of following road signs/directions), but I'm interested to hear what others say....and whether or not I'll have to start worrying! ;)

That seems good for true learner drivers.  I think for anyone with an experience driving, they'll find that part OK.  I think its a confidence thing more than anything.   Who knows how it will really play out though on the exams themselves.

For me, it's the little things--like lanes that suddenly turn into "turn only" lanes, and how sometimes the signs come *right* before you need to turn (and maybe get over in a hurry!) that would definitely foul up that part of the test.  I get lost ON MY OWN heading for the city centre (which, in Manchester, is quite an accomplishment) because roads bend in odd directions and signage is not always clear (to me).  It's a lot better now that I have experience, but I think that, nervous as I was on the day of the test, that could really have messed me up!
I'm sure the driving instructors will incorporate it into the lessons though!

From an expat perspective, I think it has the potential to really mess with your confidence, as Jennie pointed out. So many expats on this site get quite stressed about the manoeuvres and what not, this is just another added  challenge. And also, IMO, it's a way for the MVA to get more money out of the test takers as I would expect the fail rate to increase.

Actually, I think it will affect British new drivers just as much. I'm just remembering it took the ex 3 tries to pass. This is the kind of thing that would have driven him mental under pressure.

Thanks for posting this. This may be what it will take to give me the kick to do it. Ive been here 5 1/2 years and Ive never had the confidence to do it.
