Sweetpeach, is it digesting the nuts themselves in the raw/roasted form, or along the lines of anything nut related?  My father has diverticulitis and he can't really eat nuts/cashews in the raw/roasted form, but peanut butter doesn't bother him - that's a decent source of protein, and the more natural ones should be lower in sugar.

If you like peanut butter, that is.

I've been doing something along the same lines, although I don't carb count very strictly.  Try to avoid them, yeah, but I'll have a peanut butter sandwich on wholemeal bread.

It's just that the nuts have a lot of fibre and if we have them in the house I constantly nibble on them, and my digestive system can only tolerate so much fibre.

Nuts are hard for me to digest, too.  I think it's the oils in them as well which make it difficult.

That's probably true. I can only eat a very small amount of fried food before I start to feel ill.

I'm fine with raw cashews and almonds (although I don't really have an "off" button with them, so portions are an issue, but any others that are oilier bother me.  And yeah, anything greasy.  I actually had a burger last night (no fries/chips) even, from a local restaurant last night, and I felt kind of sick after about 5 minutes.

I can't do any of the foods with added fiber at all, though.  such stomach cramping.  I try to drink a ton of water if I do, which seems to help, but usually it's not worth it.

Sweetpeach, do you like chickpeas at all?  I used to roast them to make them crunchy to have as an afternoon snack, and I think they are fairly high in protein.  You need to toss them with a teeny bit of oil (I just use a tiny splash for an entire can of chickpeas) and then spice em up however you like things seasoned and pop them in the oven forever.  (Well, I'd say at 200 until they start to look golden brown or even crispy (I like them on the overdone crunchy side).

I don't know about the carb count of them, though.  Edit - Forget it! Just looked,  they are high in carbs.

But tasty as a snack if you weren't too carb conscious.
