So, this is really mostly my fault but I am having a good vent because I might just go into a crying jag for the next few days if I don't. :-(

Upakweship is picking up our boxes on Tuesday. My husband has been working non-stop because we need the money so the packing onus has really been on me...

I made the (really stupid, in hindsight) decision to get my wisdom teeth taken out a week ago - we had 1000$ in dental benefits and I didn't want it to go to waste plus, since I just graduated I didn't want them to have to come out soon after I (hopefully!) find a new job and etc. All my friends said I would be recovered in two days (well, and the dentist did too).

Five hours of drilling and grunting later, the dentist looks at me and says "welll, that was a much more complicated extraction than I thought. Expect the pain to get worse by day 2-3". I just burst into tears because I couldn't believe the pain could get worse than THAT (the nerve blocks wore off before he finished...ugh).

Well it did, and I have spent the last week in near constant agony totally unable to do anything. Luckily, my sister and my parents have been coming by to help.

Yesterday, my jaw started to feel less awful and I could finally start moving around again without wanting to die. Cue the next problem...

So, I have been taking massive doses of ibuprofen because believe it or not, the hydrocodone the dentist prescribed hardly made a dent in the pain. Last night (the first night the pain wasn't so bad that I could sort of sleep laying down) I woke up with severe upper abdominal pain. Like, stabbing a knife into my belly pain.

Unfortunately, I know this pain. I've probably given myself an ulcer (or am well on the way) with all the NSAID's that I've taken. :-( So now I can't take anymore Ibuprofen (although the pain is more bearable, and I still am taking acetaminophen) and I'm back to being somewhat useless when it comes to packing.

ARGH!!!! :-( :-( My sister is coming by tomorrow to help me pack again (and Ed isn't working, so hopefully he will be somewhat helpful) and I have taken some OTC meds to help my GI tract out. Of course, I will go to the doctor if the pains don't go away but I am just freaking out right now. Send happy vibes my way please :-(.

Oh no, hope tomorrow you are feeling a bit better and the help makes things less stressful!

Oh man - I feel for you!  Had all four of mine pulled at the same time - back when I was 19 years old (long time ago now!) and still remember that as one of the most horrifying things that I have ever endured (something being done to my body anyway, but I've never given birth or been hospitalised for anything...touch wood).  Just had local injections, no gas either.  Had driven myself 10 miles into the dentist, then drove myself home in what I think was shock, then my mom was all screechy up in my face as soon as I got back to the house.  I went straight to bed & shivered freezing cold under a blanket for hours, on a summer day with 100+ degree heat!  My face was all swelled up like a balloon for a week afterwards.

So yeah  :o - poor you!  I hope you get to feeling better soon & that you get lots of help packing.  Maybe the kitties can comfort you?

If you're still getting pain, and the pain killers aren't helping - I'd go back to the dentist. You may have an infection (which happened to me when I got my wisdom teeth out years ago), and will need a dose of antibiotics to finally stop the pain.

I hope you feel better soon.

Oh I know exactly how you're feeling.  I got all of mine taken out about 4 years ago.  None of them had broken through so it was all about him getting into my gums and wreaking as much havoc as possible.  I was also given hydrocodone and it did NOTHING except make me drowsy.

Hang in there, it will get better!

::raises hand:: Another one for a miserable wisdom teeth experience as well.

I know this seems like nothing but have you been ice packing your face?  I literally laid the side of my face on one ice pack and balanced another one on top.  WHen the pain meds did little to help (and I had to ask for different ones on 2 occassions), ice packs really took the edge off.

Thanks guys :-( I have the ice pack perpetually stuck to my face! I think I will go back to the dentist on Monday to make sure everything is healing OK.

Got some stuff done today, hopefully tomorrow I will get more done. My sister was a no-show today for help as her back was hurting her. Sigh.

Sorry to hear you're still in pain. :(

If it helps, though, keep in mind that this is just stuff. Important stuff, probably, but it's not like you're risking missing travel to the UK, or your pets' paperwork had suddenly gone missing, or something like that. Anything you don't get into boxes by Tuesday can be always be put into boxes later. :)

Ouch, I hated getting my wisdom teeth out. Impacted. Swollen gums.  Puffy cheeks.  I got mine out on Christmas eve. I slept through it all on some heavy duty pain meds.  I think I had a ham smoothie.   :-X

Hope you're feeling better soon!!!!!!!!!

Ha that part made me giggle. Not the wisdom tooth pain, I too had a truly suckish experience with that two years ago. I think I lived on mashed bean soup and pudding for two weeks.  :P

Hope the dentist can help, if it's a dry socket it feels waaaaaay better when they treat it and pack it with whatever that stuff is. Sending healing thoughts your way.

Ouch! So sorry to hear about the pain you are going through. I remember it as one of the worst experiences in my entire life, too. All of mine were under the surface. Luckily I was completely unconscious during what turned out to be a 6 hour surgery. I had never felt so much pain. The hydrocodone did nothing at all, and oh God, worst of all, they made me so sick that I started vomiting uncontrollably, like non-stop vomiting and violent wretching for nearly two hours, while my mouth hurt so badly, and since I couldn't even catch my breath, I ended up having a sort of panic attack. So I was hyperventilating for seconds in between vomiting and feeling like I might die. Total nightmare. My face swelled so badly it was actually covered in bruises for weeks. I felt like I had been hit by a bus. About a month later, I still couldn't eat much of anything solid because I couldn't open my mouth wider than about a half inch. They had to prescribe skeletal muscle relaxers in order to relax my jaw muscles so I could eat again. So, yeah, 6 weeks later I was okay.  ::)

I know that all sounds pretty bleak. I hope you will start to feel better soon and get your packing done, that all sounds very stressful, and an ulcer to boot! I feel so sorry for you.  :\\\'( At least your family is helping you out, and hopefully your recovery won't take as long as mine did. You should definitely consider seeing a doctor or your dentist and explaining the situation with the painkillers and the ulcer, etc. Maybe they can prescribe something a bit less irritating for you. (((HUGS)))
