It's been mentioned several times before on this forum, but it's still true: after a while, you don't hear the accent anymore.  I do believe that coming from different countries is one of the things that drew DH and me together, but that initial attraction isn't enough to sustain a marriage.

I have really noticed this since moving here. I'll notice someone's accent when I first meet them (especially if it's one I'm not familiar with), but then it's just "oh, that's Mike talking", not "ooooh, Scottish accent!". I couldn't imagine dating someone long-term (let alone marriage) based on their voice.
