Oh, and JennBean- I said the same thing about the U2 song and them calling it "classic rock." Um, what?! It's from the 90s! Classic rock is from the 70s!

The reason I love the show so much is because it is fake and cheesy!  I thought the show was meant to be a farce and poke fun at Glee Clubs (and high school in general...thus the "always picking on someone" and other stereotypical high school type "dramatic" events/characters).  If the show isn't meant to be overly-cheesy, overly-dramatic and overly-exaggerated...then I really missed something because I thought they did that on purpose to reiterate the "poking fun" part of it.  I think if you went into the show with the mentality that it was supposed to be a "real" high school soap opera, you would be disappointed.

I always wondered if the people singing are the actual actors...I guess they are??  That's kinda weird.  To me it defeats the purpose of having them sing in a studio (and have everything edited and dubbed) and then lip sing.  Why not just have them sing during the filming?

There are soooo many great lines from this show!!  

They are really singing! Some of them are better at lip syncing than others (Finn is horrible, though I love the guy! )

The only one I don't think can really sing that well is Kurt. He's ok, but seems to only sing falsetto. I think Rachel's voice is amazing. And Puck! He's really good. When he did "Beth" I really enjoyed that one (Esp since my name is Beth!)

I totally blame the High School Musical phenomenon on this. I think initially the show was aimed at that sort of audience. Teens and tweens just expect all of their music to be over-produced and auto-tuned to death. It really does distort the experience.

I think as the show has progressed, the producers of the show have gotten better with allowing their natural voices to come out; and it's obvious that some are professional singers and some aren't, depending on who sounds more "electronic"  (like the Sue Sylvester/Olivia Newton John episode if you're seen). Most of the main actors on the show all come from a musical theatre background, so they're obviously vocally talented. But not everyone.

I just ran into this thread and wanted to say I LOVE THE SHOW!  My sister and her friends were going on and on about it on FB and I finally asked, what is this Glee stuff?  She said I just needed to watch is so I dled it and it's grea!  It's cheesy and OTT and it's great writing but the best is Sue Sylvester.  I think everyone's but her character is pretty much two-dimensional.  We see her being the b*tch that she is... and then we see her with her sister.  It's brilliant writing.

I'm a total gleek. I even have their albums which, by the way, make fantastic road trip listening.
