depressing visa appt and lost engagement ring.
« on: August 27, 2010, 12:30:06 AM »
Fiancee and I drove 4 hours to NYC for our Tier 4 appts. We had a TON of paperwork and they told us it needed extra time, they would keep us updated via email.

Woke up this morning, and my engagement ring is gone. Tore the house apart and no where to be found. It had been getting loose, and between that and all the hustle and bustle in NYC yesterday, in the rain, leads me to believe it slipped off and someone found a really nice diamond ring.

Im hesitant to say it, but what else can go wrong?!?! This could not have happened at a worse time than this. The visa application/process/stress/waiting is enough! Now Ive lost something so dear to me.

Just hoping for that email...waiting...waiting....waiting
Biometrics- Aug. 23rd
Premium appt. in NYC - Aug 25th
Fiancee and I were told that processing was expected to take longer than usual

Visa in mail...??

Don't worry, you've still got the fiance. Rings are nice, but a great partner is forever.

I hope you get good news soon. I'm in the middle of my wait for approval as well and it's certainly enough to make anyone feel defeated.
Arrived 12 Oct 2010/Spousal Visa
Whole new world for a Southern gardener, but I'm very happy.

Was the ring insured? Insurance companies are very good about paying out for lost jewellery if you report it to both them and the police straight away. Even if it wasn't specifically covered by a policy, it's possible that you may be able to get compensation using your standard contents insurance. Check your contract, it's not at all uncommon for belongings covered against damage or loss within the home to also be covered if taken outside of it under most circumstances.

Of course it doesn't make up for losing the original, but look at it this way - you might be able to get another mini-proposal out of your fiancee with the replacement! ;)
