Expiration of student visa
« on: July 24, 2010, 12:37:46 AM »
Hi, just wanted to check around with other people's past experiences....
I was just issued my T4 visa. The valid dates are 1 month before the start of my course, until 2 months after the end of my course.  My course (as on CAS) is from 20 September 2010- 19 September 2011.  I was considering this 12 months, as 12 months=1 year= 1 January- 31 December.

I messaged the consulate, and received the following response:
Quote
Dear Jill,

In response to your e-mail below, I am confirming the expiration of your student visa is correct.  Your CAS (Confirmation Acceptance of Studies ) confirms sponsorship by the University of Nottingham as commencing on 20/9/2010 and ending 19/9/2011.  As per UKBA guidance for a course less than 12 months, we are only allowed to issue further leave to remain for an extra 2 months.  Your CAS falls short of 1 day to entitle you 4 months leave to remain after your course ends.

Kind regards,

New York Visa Section
(ARA)

This seems ridiculous to me! Or am I crazy.  Is it really 1 day short of 12 months?? Am I Crazy? Does the consulate's response seem right? I'm going to contact the international office at my school to make sure this is right, as I'm sure they would have come across this in the past...

Thanks.

According to  this (page 16), a course of 12 months is allowed 4 months after the course ends--I was told that my results may not be in by the time my visa expires (after 2 months), thus making it a little difficult to apply for the PSW visa later on.  I've emailed the university to double check/make sure i'm not overlooking something, but to me it still seems a bit off...

* Yes, I used a letter to show my loans, in addition to a scholarship on my CAS, and bank statements for personal savings.... Everything I sent in should be listed in my other post here: http://talk.uk-yankee.com/index.php?topic=63756.0

Seems weird that your school would do that. My CAS shows school goes from sept 27 2010 to sept 30 2011.

PS, I'm University of Leeds and my CAS says 22/09/10- 21/09/11, but my certificate of acceptance says that my course is 12 months.  I'm wondering if I should include something in my cover letter that addresses the fact that my University calls it a 12 month course. Le sigh.  I hope this works out better for you PS. What a PITA.
