Yes! You can! I froze some buttercream icing once, but I realised it was too easy to break it off in chunks and eat it frozen. Reason #74 why I am fat!!!

I froze some last year--the only trick is to remember what it is b/c I later put it in the microwave thinking it was cheesy mashed potatoes and melted most of it! :)

Thanks for the replies - I've been howling with laughter at your frozen icing stories!
I've put mine in the freezer and will thaw at room temp when I want to use it.
Thanks everyone!

Do remember that cream cheese icing tastes nothing like cheesy mashed potatoes when defrosting :)

just a little suggestion that made my life much easier for my wedding frosting.......i put frosting in gallon zip-lock freezer bags.........push them flat and sealed.........when thawing out we were able to just mush around in the bag to mix frosting......kinda saved dumping in a bowl and having to mix up again.......we snipped the bottom corner and squeezed into bowl.......that allowed us not to waste the frosting as we could squeeze it all out of bag.........plus if you need to color frosting having in the bags made it so much easier.

great thread!  I should have frozen the bit I had leftover a couple of weeks ago, but wasn't sure if I could, and it wasn't enough to worry over.  I definitely will in the future, though!
