New Kittens!
« on: August 22, 2010, 04:43:11 PM »
We just got two female kittens that are about 9-10 weeks old. I am concerned because they don't have any vaccinations yet... is that going to be a problem? I've been reading up about what vaccinations they need to get and it depends on if they are indoor or outdoor. We are going to keep our kittens indoor for at least the next year due to where we are living. Does anyone know what vaccinations we should definitely get and if it is ok that they are overdue for them (i think, at least). Plus, we are getting ready to go to America for a while so we could not get them in until we get back and they will be about 14 weeks by that time.

Hiya
Found this link for you about vaccination schedules for kittens. I can't remember exactly when my two got theirs as they were kittens 10 and 11 years ago :) .. I would of thought they should of had something at 8 weeks. Anyways heres the link

Thanks Kaylesh. This is a similar link as to what I found and this is the reason I am worried... Our kittens are already nearly 10 weeks and haven't had any vaccinations and they recommend the kittens have the first round of vaccines at 8 wks and next round at 12 wks. Do you know (or anyone reading this) if it will seriously harm them if they are older than that when they get the vaccines?

Hmmm i am honestly not sure.. mine have always had the first ones when they were kittens. Okay i admit im not as great about the yearly ones..
So i suppose what i'd do is phone a nearby vet clinic and ask.. I'd think most would be happy to give advice or join one of many cat forums.. and ask there..
No doubt someone will come by with more advice than i give.
Sorry Finding. Enjoy the new wee ones. :) they grow sooooo fast.

That's ok! That is what I was planning on doing... just calling the vet to ask. They are sooooo cute and I just want them to be happy and healthy!

My understanding is that 8 weeks is around as early as you can start the vaccines and then you need to do the second round ~ 4 weeks later. I gotten two kittens yesterday and they've had their first round of shots but not their second round and they stressed that we need to get the second round in next week or we'd have to start over.
