For me the transition has been great, no big reactions or anything that I can remember. I actually like this pill better than the one I was on in the states as well!

If you had bad reactions to various pills in the past, I would make sure to bring your medical records or get a list of the bad ones from your gynecologist.  Also, maybe see if you can find out what the hormone combinations were for each of the bad ones, since the names may not be the same here.  That way, you can rule out the types of pills that you know you shouldn't switch to with your GP once you get here.

The pill I'm on now is called Tri Novum, in case you might be curious to see if it's something you could switch to.  :)

When I moved here I had 2 packs of pills left, I went into the GP and told her what I was on and showed her and she was a little weird.  She was trying to talk me into something else and I said no I have had issues with BC in the past.

She finally gave me the 6 months prescription of Loestrin which I need because it is low dose, this may be close to what you are on so just ask.

She didnt want to prescribe me it because she said, "you know you have to take it the same time everyday and because it is low dose more chance of getting pregnant."  I said yes I know but its ok we plan on starting to have kids in Nov/Dec and BHAM that is when she wrote the script.

Don't worry if you have your knowledge and substitutes you wil get what you need ;-)

Speaking of birth control....
I was on Tri-Sprintec from the states. I brought it into the doctor and showed them and the closest they could find is called Trinovum. I started it on Sunday and have not felt well ever since. I had to leave work today... I am going into the doctor tomorrow but I don't know what to do because I really don't feel well and I don't know what else to go on or if I should stop this one. I'm going to America this weekend so I was thinking I could maybe get some bc pills there but obviously I don't have insurance so it will probably be really expensive.  :(

See if you can find a planned parenthood clinic, they have a sliding scale for birth control and will take your income into account. Plus, they were quite reasonably priced anyway. Otherwise, when you speak to your GP, they should have other pills to suggest.  Do you have a sexual health clinic near you? I live near one, and it is fantastic as the nurses and doctors there deal with sexual health day in/day out so they are very well informed about everything available.
Good luck, it's difficult!

Thanks I'll prob give tri novum a try. I heard the comparable one to tri cycline is cilest bc they have the same ingredients but it's not tri phase. Which is the part that's more important. Previously i was on loestrine 24. I think I had every single side effect listed. It was awful. My bf thought i was going crazy, i had so many mood swings etc.  I just don't want to go through that again.

Ya, Trinovum was the only tri-phasic they had. Thanks for that, Jennie. I will look for a sexual health clinic by me and try them once I return from America. For right now, I am seriously considering just not taking this pill. I've taken it 2 nights and I don't know what to do because I am not feeling well! I am going to go to a planned parenthood in America. My friend said she recently went and they charged her for a consultation and gave her ortho-tri-cyclen because they didn't prescribe generic. I might try this and see what happens.

findingaway, I was on tri-sprintec in the states without using my insurance and it only cost me $7 a month from Target, just in case you do manage to get it.  :)

NoseOverTail, did you have to have a prescription for that? I don't know if I can literally just go into a pharmacy and ask for it?! So, you used to be on that and are now on TriNovum? Trinovum is not working for me! I don't know if these symptoms would fade but I don't think I can handle it!

I had a prescription, which you have to have.  I was just saying that if you did manage to get a prescription for it, that it wouldn't cost much without insurance.  :)

Yeah, I didn't have any bad side effects when I went from Tri-Sprintec to Tri-Novum, but I think that it comes down to the fact that everyone's body is different.

Have you told your GP about it?  I would call them and tell them what's happening, they should be able to give you some advice about what to do.

I hope you get it sorted and start to feel better!
