Provisional license time frame?

I just applied online for my provisional license. It appears that in a week or so I'll receive an application form by post, which I will have to complete and return together with - I'm guessing - my U.S. passport? 

Does anyone have an idea on what the general timeframe is to receive the eventual license? I'm ready to get behind the wheel and start learning this system over here!

Yes you will have to mail your passport...Typically back in 2 weeks they will come back separately then you are all set to "learn" ;-)

And don't be distressed (as I was), when your Provisional license arrives a week before your passport comes back. It may be a bit daunting sending off your passport, but it does come back... oh, you also have to send a stupid picture (no smiling, straight at camera like the passports).

You can actually do the application online, and then send off the stuff- which is what I did.
