One of my favourite things about Christmas in the UK...
« on: December 13, 2010, 01:36:27 PM »
Is all of the party food appearing in abundance in the grocery stores. It's dangerous. Last night for dinner I ate mozzarella sticks and a "vegetarian selection of Indian appetizers."

People have parties and stuff in the US, but there really isn't a different and larger selection of nibbly food like this appearing around the holidays, that I recall.

Oh, and another thing. Christmas lunches with groups of friends...especially sticky toffee pud.

I love all the selection boxes ... chocolates, savory crackers, cheeses, you name it! There are some good eats this time of year!
Let them eat cupcakes!

Officially Britishly since August 2013

I love that they have Balls!  It's all very romantic and prom like! :D   I thought I'd never have an excuse to get dressed up again after my wedding.  Oh and that people don't really drink egg nog here!  I hate egg nog, and glad it's not the only holiday drink available.
We stole countries with the cunning use of flags. Just sail around the world and stick a flag in. "I claim India for Britain!" They're going "You can't claim us, we live here! Five hundred million of us!" "Do you have a flag …? "What? We don't need a flag, this is our home, you bastards" "No flag, No Country, You can't have one! Those are the rules... that I just made up!...and I'm backing it up with this gun, that was lent to me from the National Rifle Association."

It's my family's tradition to have a candlelight Christmas Eve buffet with lots of finger foods (and always prawns with the shells on!) so I try to not buy any finger food until the last minute so I don't eat it too soon!

And we also try to clear some freezer space because the local M&S marks down all their Christmas and party food to less than half price between Christmas and NY (it's situated in an office area so there's no traffic through it during that period). So we stock up on amazing nibbles when everything's a quid or two. :D
Summer 97 - first visited friends in London
99-00 - studied at Uni of Sussex on exchange
Feb 02 - moved to London on BUNAC
Sep 02 - WP granted (IT skills shortage list)
Sep 04 - WP renewed
Sep 06 - WP renewed again (screwed by 4-5 year ILR change)
Sep 07 - ILR!
March 09 - Citizenship!
July 09 - bone marrow transplant :(
18 Sep 10 - wedding!
Mar 12 - half marathon in Paris! 1:47:12!
Oct 12 - Amsterdam FULL marathon! 3:48:23!

Ooh, that's a good idea. I wish we had a bigger freezer, I would buy a ton. However, I'll be in the US from 21 Dec all the way through early January, so I won't get a chance to hit the markdown food this year. I'm filling up on it now. :)

I haven't been to M&S in a while. I bet they have some tasty-ars* party food...probably better than Tesco...

We do that too! No meal on Christmas Eve - just lovely nibbles and lots of bubbly!
