Ah, when I was a kid we vacationed every summer for about 3 or 4 weeks in Humboldt Co! Ahh Redwood Beach (Freebie beach - but not no more :\\\'() & Orick were my summer stomping grounds...How I wish I could go to Trinidad & hit Katies Smokehouse for some REAL smoked salmon...Shasta County's just about as 'oop Norf' as Humboldt I think only Siskiyou, Del Norte & Modoc beat us!  ;D

Ooooooh Trinidad!  One of the most beautiful beaches ever.  I remember the long drives over to Redding and Shasta.  I would always get soooo carsick!  So nice to know you are from my neck of the woods (kinda), WebyJ  :)

Nope...never heard of it or heard it mentioned. It just might be the type of people you hang around with as well. I'm more of the mid thirties mom, hanging out with OAP's -- they'd probably have the same reaction as me as well...who's Katy Perry???

Oh don't say Mid thirties is old... I'm closer to thirty than 20 now!  Though, it is true that most of my fiancé's friends do act like they are more 12 than late 20's.. :D

I love the redwood area- Miss the coast a lot.  If I could find a place to camp next to the ocean anywhere around here i would be there in a second.  Fort Bragg California was my families summer stomping ground.
We stole countries with the cunning use of flags. Just sail around the world and stick a flag in. "I claim India for Britain!" They're going "You can't claim us, we live here! Five hundred million of us!" "Do you have a flag …? "What? We don't need a flag, this is our home, you bastards" "No flag, No Country, You can't have one! Those are the rules... that I just made up!...and I'm backing it up with this gun, that was lent to me from the National Rifle Association."

That's where my family goes now...usually for a week around Memorial Day to go get Abalone & then again in July & August. We stay just south of McKerricher at a private campground...I miss the CA coast!

I took my Fiancé there this last summer for the first time.  He described it as a paradise.  I agree! There is just something about tide pools and bonfires on the beach to make you feel like your in heaven! I hope it's something I can do with my family for years to come- I had heard due to budget cuts a lot of the state parks are closing down. McKerricher is where we usually stayed.  I hope things work out.  Opps! I think I hijacked the post! Sorry OP! :D

I got into saying "hella" all the time, which, my best friend who has relatives in San Francisco said is a Northern Cali thing. Don't know if that's true or not.

I can't say as I've heard people in the bay area say "hella."  I think of it as a central valley thing :)

Hi & welcome to UKY!   :)

Although it sounds wonderful, I think we want to wait a bit. My papers aren't final until January which once final I have to go back to California anyways. I want him to meet my family before we jump into any visa. I've met his family already because of the convenience of still being in Europe. Thanks though, I really appreciate it.

Quite sensible.  Good luck with your future plans!
