Anyone getting married in NYC?
« on: September 20, 2010, 04:05:11 PM »
Hey

I am going crazy just trying to figure out whether the CITY CLERK OFFICE is open on January 3.  My fiance can only come for few days and so we have to time it right.  I called the city 311 number, checked the http://www.cityclerk.nyc.gov/html/home/home.shtml website and even called the city clerk 212.

311
- basically reading the website back to me and couldn't tell me if it would be open.
212 city clerk office number - no one picks up the line or just got push to the answering machine.
website - It says it don't open on holidays or weekend but I am worry if they are open on the 3rd since it is only a few days after the new year.

I know I can go to the city clerk office in person but I just want to know if anyone got a clue before I travel all the way over there.  I assuming that it should open, since new year had pass and should be back to normal??

Anyone know anything about this. if their open on the 3rd??
Anyone know a friend or anyone you can ask about this?

Help!
=)

Federal Employees are being given Dec 31 2010 as the New Years Holiday since New Years falls on a Saturday.

When you get the answering machine, did you try leaving a message?

When I called my local city clerk, I left a message, and got a call back later that afternoon.

When in New York, look at the stock market calendar.  It's a good indication of whether other things will be running normally.  The calendar is here: http://www.nyse.com/about/newsevents/1176373643795.html

It appears that the stock market will be open as normal on Jan 3.  I'll bet the city will be as well.  I assume that you'll need to obtain your marriage license on the 3rd for a wedding on the 4th?  In that case, if it is closed, perhaps some other town's office in NY State will be open?  You can get a license anywhere in NYS that's valid anywhere else in NYS.

Yup, marriage license on 3rd and wedding ceremony on 4th.
Since it's just after the new year, I am worry because fiance will leave during the same week.  I called, left a message but got no call back from city clerk.
I hope it be back as normal by the 3rd but mean time I just need to find out either by calling again or make my way to the city clerk office.
