We haven't moved yet but know where we want to go & need to be there before school begins next Sept (my son will be in year 7). Problem is - in order to register for school, you have to already be living in the catchment area for the school you want to attend. So what do you do if you don't live there yet?
Also, my son is ADD so we've been looking at the SEN "scores" for schools in the area we want to go on Good Schools Guide (
http://www.goodschoolsguide.co.uk). I'm curious if anyone knows how schools view ADD kids. If they already have a well-established SEN policy or program - is having an ADD kid an advantage (schools want more kids like this) or a disadvantage (appeals process is hindered by the ADD diagnosis)?
Anyone else gone through this process (appeals for the school you want because you didn't arrive until RIGHT before school started)? Were you successful in getting into the school you wanted?
Do any of you have ADD or ADHD kids - how did you go about finding a doctor for meds and getting a statement of SEN? Do you just bring paperwork from US doctor? Or do they have to reevaluate in the UK to re-diagnose?
If it matters/helps, we are looking at the Kent area.
Thanks!
