Are there any banks that don't require that letter from your school? my school is behind on the letters and I've run out of money. Ive got my check but no bank will cash it unless i have an acct. :( I went to lloyds and they require that letter. Any other options?

Are you the one going to LCC? That sounds like a proper UAL thing, sadly.

What letter did Lloyds want? I opened an account quite easily with them and have only had good service since. Plus they've been pretty good with wire transfers. I didn't go for the student account, though. I went with a current account (I think it was called Classic Vantage).

How is everyone proving UK residency?!!
I know I used the contract for my flat. I can't remember if I used any other documents, but that was pretty much the only thing I had at that point.

Yeah elle I am :) but they finally had my letter ready yesterday. Lloyds and every other bank, required i have a letter from the uni on their official letter head stating i was a student and that had my uk and us addresses on it. Went in to lloyds today and they won't be able to see me till Monday. Freaking ridiculous. Btw syntax, that letter is what I'm using to prove my address since i don't have a housing agreement bc I live with family.

Did your letter say Lloyds only?  I went with Barclays and after depositing my loan check on Thursday I already have my chip and pin and my money was there yesterday.  Which ain't bad considering how banking works over here.

Has anyone else had their Uni tell them that there's been a delay? I'm going to Kingston and they sent out a mass e-mail on Wednesday telling us that the money would take at least a few more days... going as far out as perhaps the 11th of October. :-\\\\

Do mean there's a delay in the loan processing from the US? If so, I was told the same today. They are absolutely confused with the American system at my university because it had a huge change in the way you can get funding this year. I'm being told that I will barely get anything and I'm probably going to have to drop out and postpone finishing my degree for a while. I'm still attending and hoping that they work things out for me but it doesn't look very likely. I hope things go well for you. Just make sure that your school has a note about you recieving american loans on their system. They used to shut off my account frequently because they thought I just didn't feel like paying them last year. Really sucks :(.

That's terrible. I got my money last week.... My school said they were late paying but what takes awhile is the changeover from dollar to pounds. Hope everything works out! I set up my bank yesterday and my check will fully deposit on fri.

I made it to Manchester, I opened an account with Lloyds, finally got my account on friday so i was able to deposit 1 of my loan checks, though I'm still waiting for the other one to come through. I got my bank card and pin on monday, that was really quick. I was told I could transfer funds from the US to my account here. Haven't done that.
