Giant Signatures
« on: October 21, 2010, 08:44:07 PM »
There's a couple of giant signatures floating around, in terms of height. I have a 13" screen and a couple take up 1/2-3/4 of the screen as they have pictures, timelines, quotes, animations etc in them. It's quite annoying to have to scroll so much when reading a topic :D

Can signatures be turned off so I don't have to view them? It would also help with page loading for me :)

Thanks :)

If you go to your profile, under "look and layout preferences" there's a box to tick that hides signatures.

Yeah you can turn them off like historyenne said but I don't like to because sometimes it helps for info but I agree the big ones are really, really, really annoying...

Also, if you right click on the particular sig that's causing problems for you, you will get a little drop down menu that allows you to block images from that particular host. That way you don't have to block all sigs.

Unfortuantely that doesn't seem to be working for me, when I do it I don't get a block option. Oh well ... thanks for the suggestion though, it was worth a try.

It worked for me if I right clicked directly on the image, but not on the signature. Thanks Shahbanou!

I tried that, what browser are you using or I'm wondering if it could be a mod function only? In the mean time I've turned off all sigs because I just can't be bothered and a couple of them really do my head in.

It worked for me too. I use Firefox.

hmm, I'm in Chrome and it's not working for me.

Maybe I'll just go the "ignore" route on those offenders instead :D (Personal pet hates - giant love heart pictures, annoying quotes about lurvvvvve across the ocean, vomit inducing tickers that use the word "sweetie" or "honeybun" a thousand times, overly detailed timelines that go on for 30-40 lines (the first time you had sushi together - gosh!) ) ;D

The right-click thing only works on pictures or tickers that come from other websites, so no-go on the long timelines.  Probably best to ignore.

I have siggies disabled.

If you want to see if there is more information about someone, you can click on their screen name. That will bring up their profile, and you will be able to see their signature in their profile.

To each their own- that's what makes it a community of different and diverse folks! If some folks like giant sigs, then go for it!   :)

But I can agree it can be interesting sometimes on the mac to have to scroll, etc- so it may be better that if you can't disable it for certain users then you turn 'em all off to keep your sanity.

This is what I used, and it works very well.

I use a netbook with a very tiny screen so I had to turn everyone's sigs off, as well. This is why I sometimes ask questions that may be obvious to everyone else like, "when are you getting married?"  ;)  I had to turn it off from day one so it doesn't even occure to me to look unless someone specifically comments on someone else's sig.
