Is there a specific time that you are allowed to go on maternity leave? Or can you leave whenever you decide is best for you?

I think you can start at 24 weeks, ask your HR person!

Starting your Statutory Maternity Leave

You can start your Statutory Maternity Leave any time from 11 weeks before the beginning of the week when your baby's due.

If you are off work because of your pregnancy within four weeks of the expected birth date, your employer can make you start your Statutory Maternity Leave then.

I'm due March 1st and started mine the beginning of this month.  With Jean I was due May 7th and started 20th of March.
