Hoping to move
« on: November 13, 2010, 05:44:19 PM »
Hi there
Well we have made the descision to move to the South of England. We are originally from ireland, then lived in Toronto for a year and then New York for 25 years. Our two sons were born here and are 11 and 10.

We are hoping to leave super expensive Long island by the end of the school year. We had a small mom/pop business for 20 years and it was great, but time to move on. My dh also has a batchelors in IT and I will have an associates in Accounting.

The boys are in 6th and 5th grade in a catholic school. Oh yes, how about dogs ; do they have to be quaratined and for how long? We would rent for about a year first to see where our jobs get us and then hopefully buy.

Lots of questions, and just starting the process.

Thanks d
dorothy

You can do the PETS process before you go to avoid quarantine. You have to do a few vet visits and pay some fees to get paperwork signed off on, but it's pretty straightforward. There's a subforum called Pets that has further details.

Good luck!

Welcome to UKY!

Make sure your kids have their Irish Passports & as long as yours are current you shouldn't have any issues with moving as EU Citizens. If you just hold US Citizenship then you're going to have issues as you might find it impossible visa wise.

Yes, they both have their irish passports also. So we are all dual citizens which helps a lot.

thanks

Hi there!

We currently live in the suburbs of Philadelphia and are also measuring the possibility to move to England as soon as my son finishes high school.

However, as Italian citizens, what do we have to do in order to legally apply for a job, mortgage, purchase a vehicle?

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Txs.-

If you have your Italian Passports there's nothing else to do. You can enter the UK for 3 months as a job seeker during that time you can set up home & find employment. But be advised that the UK is starting to enforce the rules that EU Citizens must be exercising their treaty rights in the UK in order to be allowed to remain in the UK. So you must be a student or working if not they have started to remove EU Citizens from the UK who are not exercising their treaty rights.

Here's the information regarding working in the UK as a EU Citizen: http://www.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk/workingintheuk/eea/
