HealthMonth - neat new online "game" to make life changes
« on: September 30, 2010, 04:25:31 PM »
I read about this site on a blog and it looks interesting. On the 1st of each month you start a new "game" with various daily/weekly goals (mine are to exercise, take a vitamin, and go be social 2+ times a week). Every day you login and track whether you met your goals yesterday, and get in-game points/bonuses for doing so (you lose points if you don't meet your goals).

It's free to have up to 3 goals, and you can choose from a ton of different ones (or create your own). I've setup a team for UKY if anyone's interested in trying it out with me. :)

I'm a big fan of video games' progress meters, achievements, etc, so I'm hoping this helps motivate me. :) If not, at least it's free.

Oh, me too! Achievements are the bane of my existence as...well, I *have* to get all of them.
Have you seen this TED talk? It talks about compulsive progress bar filling :)
.
I'll take a look at home; I'd like some way to be more accountable about my eating and exercising. And I like goal setting!

I really like the idea of this, but I can't promise I'll stick with it. I'm a habitual quitter.  :-\\\\

I joined. I just need someone to okay me for the team. :)

ETA: Without looking at anyone else's, I added like 10 rules.  Sorry if that seems OTT, but a lot of the ones I added I follow already.  Maybe I should delete some.  :-\\\\

I've approved you. :) For some reason it doesn't notify me when someone wants to join the group, which is weird. (It is a beta, though.)

I limited myself to 3 rules because that's how many were free. ;) I don't think you can do "too many" rules, really, whatever works for you.

I'm hit-or-miss on the exercise front (and have been "cheating" a bit by counting my regular walking when I really mean(t) doing genuine cardio), but at least it's reminding me to take a vitamin every day. ;) May have to work up to the exercise thing slowly.

Chary: I can give you fruit to keep you alive :D

Legs: I also picked 3 'cause I thought that's how many are free.

Yeah, I had to reduce mine because I really didn't want to pay the £5! I love the idea of "rules" with losing weight.  It's how Alton Brown lost his weight, and I think that it can work for people.  But there's other ways that a site like that can raise cash!

Hey, I just saw this and joined up.  :) Still trying to figure out how it works though. I've picked some rules for myself and tried to join the team late. Is that okay?

Sure, the more the merrier! :) I don't think it matters when you join.
