The week before Christmas, we're renting a huge house in Devon for a few days and my husband's children/grandchildren will be joining us. First time we've ever done anything like this. Have picture-perfect visions of how it will turn out.  Roll Eyes

There will be 5 grandchildren present: 2 boys, 3 girls, aged 3-7.

Would love some ideas on super-simple Christmas ornaments that the kids could make. Something with VERY minimal supplies...quick and easy.

Any suggestions would be welcome! Thank you!

Didn't someone start a thread like this quite recently? I'll go and see if I can find it. In the meantime, I *always* suggest salt dough ornaments!  :)

ETA: Found it! Here's the other thread!

Turning candy canes into reindeer is always easy - tie on some brown pipe cleaners to be antlers and then glue on googly eyes and a little red or black pompom to be the nose.

Make paper loop garlands - cut different colored construction paper into inch-wide strips, roll a strip into a loop and staple the ends together, then pick a different color strip, roll into a circle around the first strip and staple the ends together. Repeat, making each loop through the last loop until you have a chain of the desired length.

God's Eye - I think we called these something else when I was a kid, but you glue two popsicle stitcks together to make an X or a + and then tie a long piece of string to the center - varigated yarn works best as the colors change. What you want to do is wrap the yarn in front of the popsicle, wrap it around behind the stick, and then in front of the next stick, around the stick, and in front of the next one and so on and so forth. If you don't have varigated yarn you can switch colours periodically.

There's also popcorn and cranberry garlands and, of course, cutting snowflakes out of tissue paper.

We're letting the kids at playgroup dip pinecones in PVA glue and sprinkle with glitter this year.

Re paper loop garlands - great idea and you don't have to staple.  You can pick up 'lick and stick' paper strips just for this purpose in many newsagents/stationers (Paperchase have them in various designs/colours).  Ask for paper chain strips.

What about folding paper strips concertina style and cutting out designs to make a strip of snowmen or snowflakes?

Or fold circles of paper into sixths and cut out bits along the edges - open up and voila snowflakes!

Salt dough ornaments!

I love salt dough ornaments, and recently made 80 small, varnished ones for my daughter's Christmas fair.

These are cheap and easy (flour + salt + glitter (for flair) and some water). If you made these, I'd bake some ahead of time for the younger ones, since they take a while to harden. Fun fun fun.
