Bringing Haggis (tinned) to the US

J and I recently had Grant's Haggis, which is canned, and we were really surprised that its actually quite nice tasting (we're just used to fresh stuff)

Anyways, I'd love to bring some home to the US, (to of all things, put in as a family Christmas grab bag gift!)  but I'd guess its probably a banned item- being haggis and a meat product and all that.  

Thoughts?  
 
I could bring vegetarian haggis - though not the same!!!

Not sure if it's banned, but I wouldn't doubt it being a meat product.  However, a couple of years ago, my husband and I brought back tinned chicken curry from M & S to try at home (which wasn't actually too bad, I have to say).  Only thing is we weren't asked to open our cases in customs at LAX, so if we were, I wouldn't be surprised to have them confiscated.

Haggis is still specifically banned from importation by USDA. There was a rumor earlier this year (January) that they were allowing it back into the US, but USDA confirmed shortly after that Haggis is still an item that is not allowed for importation into the US.

It'll have to be the veggie variety if you want to take some

Hrmmm - I can find tinned haggis on amazon.com for shipping within the US... Hrmmm

I had a look, and it seems that the canned stuff on Amazon is shipped from a Canadian merchant.  So I wonder if that's how they manage to get under the radar?

Also, it doesn't appear to be too authentic- not like the Grants haggis anyways 

Hmm- don't think I want to be paying $18 for a tin of it either
