UPS/FedEx and C3 Customs Form
« on: September 08, 2010, 08:08:58 PM »
Has anyone shipped box or two via UPS or FedEx and used the C3 customs form to exempt their personal property? Any issues with doing this? Do UPS/FedEx know what the C3 customs form is?

thanks, Andy

Hi Andy, I don't know for sure yet, I'm sorry this is so late after your post. I plan on talking to UPS today, I will let you know what I find out :) Another thread on here taught me about the C3 forms, which was brilliantly helpful, I was curious what to do not to be charged huge customs fees for my own clothes! I hope I find out some good news for you :)

I have to do this in about three weeks, so let us know what is possible!

I was thinking of handing over the C3 form with a copy of my passport, and inventory list to FedEx/UPS and then putting stickers on the box saying "C3 Form Enclosed in Pouch".

I went into my local UPS store, I explained the situation, she said staright off that using the Post Office is a way better bet price wise. I'll have to enquire about the C3 form once I go to the Post Office. I've only got a couple boxes I'm sending though, no furniture or the like, I can't help with that if you need it :-\

Yes, USPS is cheaper, however you won't get a tracking number because more than one company/org is involved. If it goes missing USPS will blame Royal Mail and vice versa. The big advantage of FedEx/UPS is that one company is in control of it the entire way.

For me I will be shipping a couple of boxes of last minute stuff that I want to be able to track and have a delivery guarantee, as they are critical to my job (which I am keeping).

Well I tried it... I sent three boxes via FedEx with C3 customs forms attached and FedEx screwed it up. Now they have to go to HM customs and explain that they never looked at the forms and they need to fix it.

We will see...
