Winter Over Trouser Help
« on: December 02, 2010, 01:43:39 PM »
Hello all,

My Mom is flying over to us in a couple of weeks. She originates from a much warmer climate, and extreme cold is difficult for her to deal with. She doesn't complain about it, but she does struggle.

I'm trying to locate some decent over trousers for her to order before she flies over. I figured an American shop would be more flexible with plus sizes. Checked with LL Bean and I was surprised to see how limited their selection seemed to be.

Do any of you have any suggestions where she could order some? I've Froogled and Amazoned "rain pants" and the top size seems to be 18s, and they need to be a smidge bigger. She's going to be wearing normal trousers and thermals, but I'd like to keep her dry too.

Thanks all

If you're talking about waterproof trousers (??), try Cabelas - they have larger sizes on them, I think up to a 22/24 (or so) in US sizing.

You can probably also get some fleecy outdoors trousers from them as well.

In any case, I did about 2-3 years ago.

I got my rain trousers off amazon, so I'm surprised your having trouble. Mine may be mens size though, I am not sure. Either way they fit fine.

LL Bean has waterproof rain pants that are in sizes 1X, 2X, and 3X
Item Item:TA247878

Lands end has actual warm squall pants (lined) in sizes 1X, 2X, and 3X
Item 39466-6AF2

You can try JC Penney as well

Good luck- its tough finding these things when you're plus sized.

If your goal is to keep her dry, would a pair of high wellies and a long coat suit her better?

I doubt if the snow will come up to her thighs, and from your description of her, it doesn't seem like she will be rolling around playing in the snow.

I just wear a pair of leggings under my jeans and then tuck my jeans inside my wellies and I have a knee length wool blend coat that I got at ASDA for £18 and I'm never cold (and I'm a very cold ish person -- I have to wear socks inside during summer to keep my toes warm!!!) when I venture out and we have about a 10 inches of snow outside right now.

Thank you so much! I found these, http://goo.gl/fWkA0, which if are sized right will be perfect. I totally forgot about Lands' End.

I spent a good portion of the morning looking on Amazon, and all I've seen are trousers as high as a size 22. I'll have to ask (been avoiding that!) but I'm guessing she's going to be a size or two bigger. Men's trousers are a possibility, but time is a bit of a problem here. She's also seriously pear shaped, so fitting into mens' trousers may be problematic.

Thanks again!

She's probably too afraid of getting videod rolling around in the snow and having it posted on youtube. Not that I would do that sort of thing.

The overtrousers are going to be better, especially since most act as wind breakers. She already has a heavy/waterproof coat.

She really needs the ability to try the clothes on beforehand, but given she lives in Mobile, AL, and it's about 60F this time of year and not the rainy season, the local shops don't have anything she could use.

If she was a more conventional size I'd just take her to the local places over here. But I'm an 18 with a size 8 shoe, and I have enough problems finding adequate clothing.

(Which aside from a health standpoint, I'd love to lose weight to have a greater selection of clothes.)

Oh well.
