carry-on allowances
« on: December 05, 2010, 11:07:15 PM »
hiya,

my sister and her family will be coming to visit at the end of December.  their US flights are to/from Italy.  she is planning on just taking carry-ons thinking that they can have 2 bags (purse/backpack plus carry-on bag) both ways. However, I remember being allowed this from the States, but only being allowed 1 carry-on to the States. Does anyone know if this is still the case and what the restrictions are for Europe.

Personally, I am hoping they have to check because then they can bring me liquids.

Thanks!

Not really sure but maybe they should check with the airline on the web page....when my husband and I went to America in July we flew via Paris on Air France...this is what they let us take on board as hand or carry on:

1 standard baggage item that respects the following maximum dimensions:
55 cm (l) x 35 cm (w) x 25 cm (h) – including pockets, wheels, and handles
Please note: (1 suit bag is considered a standard bag)
1 accessory (handbag, notebook computer, camera, etc.)
Maximum total weight (standard baggage + accessory): 12 kg/26.5 lb

This was leaving from Heathrow to Paris to Salt Lake City then the opposite coming back...
I think it really depends on the airlines in the end....sorry was not to much help for you   :)

These rules change and perhaps that was the allowance the last time you flew so you really need check with the individual airline for their baggage restrictions.  I've flown 3 different airlines in the past 3 months here and in the US. All had different baggage allowances for checked bags, but on all we were allowed to bring a purse or something similar and a carry on. Airline websites usually have tab on the homepage regarding baggage so it should be easy to get an official answer.

thanks, I'll have her take a look. I seem to remember that last time I flew it wasn't a restriction from the airline, but something that was being done across the board. I may be confusing this with another time I flew out there right after one of the alert increases- I remember waiting for the plane and having a conversation about it being unfair there were different allowances depending on the direction of flight.
