Opportunity to help...
« on: December 09, 2010, 10:31:16 PM »
I know I know everyone wants or needs something at Christmas or a fund raiser ect...

I just wanted to share this blog
http://stefaniewildertaylor.com/2010/12/call-to-arms/
as I follow http://www.motherhoodinnyc.com and she mentioned it and WHAM I was there reading it...

I thought wow I have a very blessed life no matter if I have problems someone is worse of then me - then I donated $20 bucks.  It won't buy the world but it will buy something someone needs.

Just tossing it out there because ya never know who reads what and who can spare a 5 or 10 pound/dollar.

Happy Holidays

Along the same lines...

I asked my husband not to buy me presents this year & instead make a donation to NSPCC..and he did  :) It's the best feeling in the world.

I think that what he did truly embodies the real Christmas Spirit and a perfect way to get away from all the hype & comercialism that has become Christmas.

I believe that is awesome!
I also donated but only a fiver to the US http://www.loveourchildrenusa.org/.  I know there are families like the one she is helping that the US goverenment is letting down so I feel I can do something to help.  If its work boots to go to work or a blanket to keep warm then thats what it is ;-)
I know times are tough all over the world but a fiver helps most more then it would help me getting a cup of Starbucks and I know that. ;-)

A charity I volunteer with had our Christmas lunch at the cafe below.  The servers and the cooks are all people with mental disabilities there to get experience and skills in the catering field. We had a wonderful lunch and we felt like we had helped our fellow man for the day.

Mrs. R - I love that system...I can't remember where I have read about it before but I swear people amaze me!

persephone - Isn't the feeling great?

I love when people can come together for the greater good on a single or multiple people ;-)

It was.  The food may have taken a little longer to get to me, but it was tasty.  And it felt good knowing I helped people get skills.

It does.  :)

Great ideas here!!
DH asked me for gift ideas but I really don't need anything, and we've got more than enough stuff to pack up anyway, so I suggested a charitable donation.  There are so many good ones to choose from.
