Londoner married to a Minnesotan
« on: December 21, 2010, 03:48:41 PM »
Hi All

I was born and raised in Surrey and married a girl from the Fargo-Moorhead area this summer. We're now living in London and enjoying the freakish snow that she thought she'd escaped! She studied here for a while and was excited about things I'd never even think of, like being able to walk through grass without being eaten by tics. We started dating, visiting each other as much as possible and using Skype pretty much every day.

My wife is happy in England, but we both really miss things from the US. Personally I wish I could find cheap root beer! The can on my desk cost £1! I recently found a replacement for Saltines on this forum which really made my wife happy!

All the people I met in the States were lovely and I always had a good time. She can't stand the weather there though. We spent summer on the North Shore on Lake Superior which was amazing. I've also been to Pelican Rapids MN two winters in a row, which the locals decided could only be a sign of real love. You only go out barefoot to chill drinks in a snow drift once...

Stee

I hear ya on that one.

I've found a small bottle at Waitrose, but it was £2 for about a litre!  Totally worth it though.  ;)

Hello and welcome!  We just spent our autumn holiday along the North Shore!  It's so beautiful in the Spring, Summer and Autumn, but I'd hate to be driving the hills of Duluth in the winter.  My dad lived all over Minnesota as a kid, and his family seems to have finally settled in the Twin Cities for good.

I'll definately be checking waitrose and some asian stores for better deals on the root beer :)

We're planning to go back to MN in the Autumn too, I've been told the colours are amazing. Wont be swimming in the lakes this time though!

Waitrose sell Bundaberg root beer. It's from Australia and it's fantastic!! In fact, I no longer really crave root beer on my trips back to the USA (I'm from Iowa, my sister is in Minneapolis!) as I get my fill over here!
