Downton Abbey in the US

Apparently, the Daily Mail had an article about how US television executives had to extensively edit Downton Abbey because they feared US audiences would not "get it."

Imagine my great shock and dismay [/sarcasm] when I found the Daily Mail article was completely, utterly and might I say deliberately wrong!

His messy article is, in some ways, awfully similar to Mrs. Patmore's salty meringue, and just as unappetizing.
I think the same could be said about almost everything the Daily Mail prints!

I loved Downton Abbey an I cant wait for the 2nd series to come out. ;D  [smiley=2thumbsup.gif]  when Dh told me about this I was like you need those parts in the show I thought they were crucial for the story to work out.

What's to "get" about Downton Abbey? It seems a fairly straightforward period toffs-and-servants drama in the "Upstairs, Downstairs mould but with 21st century production values. A juicy soap opera in Edwardian clothing. I watched it because my partner wanted to see it, expecting to find lots to sneer at, but was hooked within 10 minutes.

So basically they removed the ads! Maybe the US may want to run a similar article about how Damages is only on for 50 mins on the BBC rather than 60 mins!

And the comment about "Americans have a short attention span"! Yes - that explains why Downton Abbey was made into 6 episodes whilst most US drama series are 24 episodes!
