HELP 5 animals!
« on: August 01, 2011, 07:46:18 PM »
Hello,

I'm planning a move to the Brighton area early next year and I have 5 pets. 3 dogs and 2 cats. I swear I'm not an animal hoarder.  ::) Is it crazy to try and do this with just my boyfriend and myself? Should I just use a transport company so I can get the door-to-door service as I have no car? The cost isn't really a problem. Although, I'd like to save the money and do it on my own, but are there car services that would pick us all up from the airport?

Also, about the PETS scheme, would it be wiser to get started on the old scheme now or wait until January for the change over?

Thanks in advance for your help!

The cab service we used to pick up me and one cat came in a van. It would easily have accommodated one more cat and three dogs.

In fact, it has just this second dawned on me it's the same car we hired to ferry our wedding party to the reception. How very singular.

I don't know anything about the current state of the PETS scheme, though. This was a few years ago and I jettisoned all the information I didn't need any more after the move.

You could get started on the process now with the changeover in mind. i.e. get microchip/vaccination done, and then do nothing else. ;) By January you'll have the 21-day wait over, and will just need to get the EC 998 form signed off. Should save you the cost of doing the bloodwork and possibly a vet visit (if DEFRA waives the tick/tapeworm treatment entirely - though the airline would still likely need a fit-to-fly form/statement).

That's a relief. Would you happen to have a name for them? Funny that they seem to be involved in all your life's big ventures. ;D

Thanks! That's what I was thinking, too. I like to err on the side of caution, but I tend to get over-the-top prepared sometimes and it just leads to a lot of stress and wastes of money that weren't necessary.

Don't fret :-) I moved with four cats last year (myself and my husband)! So it should be totally doable. Everyone else has taken care of your other questions admirably well so I'll leave it at that. Good luck!

Oh, it's a local cab firm out of Rye, the nearest good-sized town. You'll want to ask around Henfield or, failing that, Brighton.
