Split Quarantine?
« on: January 22, 2011, 01:33:33 PM »
Hello, my husband has applied for a position in the UK and we are still waiting to see if he has been successful. In the meantime I've been researching what we would need to do about bringing our dog and cat with us. This forum has been a gold mine of information!

I have been wondering if it's possible to split the Quarantine period? Can you start the process here in the US but take the animals over before the 6 months and complete the rest of the Quarantine period in a Quarantine Kennel in England?

We would be moving from Denver to Harrogate and I noticed that there is at least one Quarantine Boarding Kennel in the Yorkshire area that has received good reviews.

Thanks in advance for any help.  :)

Yes, you can "split" the time. My cat had to do just that when I brought her over with me. There was a mix-up at my vet's office (they were clueless about DEFRA regulations and I was pretty naive too) which resulted in her needing a second blood test.  :(  That messed up my timeline so when she arrived in the UK her 6 months was not yet up so she had to spend some time in the quarantine kennels in Binfield.  (Great facility, really nice people)
Once her 6 months total was up, she was cleared for release and came home with me!

It's not ideal but sometimes we don't have choices.  It's definitely better than your furkids spending the entire 6 months in quarantine.  :(
