Dallas Tx to London area
« on: June 16, 2011, 07:01:53 PM »
Hello!  I have been stalking the forum for awhile and I am so happy to see that there are some posts with advice for those of us who will (probably) eventually relocate back to the US.  My husband is being transferred to London on a Tier 2 ICT Visa, and myself and our 4 kids (ages 12, 10, 7, and 5) are so excited to be tagging along!

We will be flying in on July 18th and have temporary accommodations set up for 30 days.  The company has hired a home finder for us and she recommends the Amersham area, so that is where will will at least start our search.  If anyone has any advice on the area or general advice for a larger family we would appreciate it.  :)

Deb

Welcome from another Texan with kids. We came from the Houston area (although am from Temple and have lived around Austin and Dallas) in March. My kids are 8, 8 & 12. We're currently in the Canary Wharf area. Don't really know much about other places. Good luck with the move. Sounds like the company is really helping you out. That will make a big difference.

Thanks for the welcomes!

The company really hasn't been helpful, it has been a real "tooth and nail" experience.  I am just stubborn and refuse to move if they aren't going to be helpful since they are the ones that want my husband there so bad.  ;)  We finally have everything in place now as far as the move goes, if I could just get our house here rented out...

hi Deb,
I`m English (family from the carribean) and born in London so hope I can help with advice about areas. Wow, Amersham is quite far from central London but buckinghamshire is really beautiful so it`s a good call. However if you want to live right in the city you couldn`t do better than Hampstead or Highgate. These are close to the centre of London but have a lovely villagey feel about them (they originally were villages far away from London but have been consumed by the ever expanding city). I was in Hampstead recently at a museum and met an American lady who worked there and she said she loved Hampstead and that there was a big American community and that it was a really great place to live. It`s got great museums, restaurants etc. Highgate is also stunning and is up on the hill hence the name.
Anyway whatever you decide good luck with the move and welcome to London!
                                                                  kind Regards,
                                                                                 Gary
