Blue cheese!
« on: April 05, 2011, 01:15:14 PM »
So in america i am a big fan of spinach salads with blue cheese crumbles. I went to tescos the other day and i couldnt figure out what was the right kind! Im used to buying it already crumbled- i bought one to experiment and it was way to mushy and not the right flavour at all. Please help!!

Oh so do I!  I really like to put walnuts and dried cherries on it as well, and use a raspberry walnut vinegarette.  Mmmmmm!

I find Danish blue cheese to be good for crumbling.  I don't have a specific brand to give you unfortunately, because I just look for where it comes from! But, where it comes from can tell you a lot about what it's texture might be like.  Danish blue is also a bit salty, which I like.  :)

Another one that's good for crumbling is Roquefort.

Gorgonzola is generally supposed to be crumbly, but I have found some brands of it to be creamy, almost like brie so you probably should look for it as a brick of cheese rather than in a little wedge-shaped tub if you want it crumbly.

I'm sorry I don't have any brands to offer, but I sure do love cheese.  Hopefully someone else will have something more specific.  Now I think I might have to go buy some!  ;D

I always buy Rosenborg, it crumbles perfectly. I like it in a salad with dried cranberries and roasted pecans. Yummmy

Chickpeas = garbanzo beans  ;D

I love gorgonzola. I find it helps to crumble it a bit the day before and let it sit in the fridge. Still clumps though! Just break it up best you can and then use your fork to further break it up when eating the salad. I prefer something clumpy and creamy to dry and crumbly, personally.
We met in Tokyo through friends when we both lived in Japan.

Last year we moved to Thailand, got our first apartment together, got jobs with the same employer (!), didn't end up killing each other, got married, and decided to move to the UK to settle down.

London, here we come!

Stilton!!
When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down ‘happy’. They told me I didn’t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn’t understand life. ~ John Lennon
