We're way up in the East Anglian no-mans-land (Norwich) and have managed without a car for 9 months now. The buses are great, there are trains to London (and from there you can go anywhere). We even splurge on things like taxis because it's *still* a heck of a lot cheaper than having to pay for things like cars, insurance, parking, petrol, etc.

Dh is working on getting his license here, but I'm just as happy to go without.

You will be more than fine without a car in London.

For example, noriem and I live in the same place and she gets along just fine without a car. I, on the otherhand, would never be able to get along without one.  I went absolutely insane when I had an accident with my honda, and I was left without a car for 2+ months.  I had lots and lots of difficulties! So it all depends.

That's cause my DF bought a house within walking distance of the town centre  ;)  When you know you're not going to have a car you make different decissions about where you can live. London, yes; Cotswolds, no.
