Detroit to Heathrow on Delta
« on: May 13, 2011, 10:26:18 PM »
Hello!! It has been 4 months since I have moved to the Uk, and 4 months since I have seen my dog.  Next Saturday she is flying from Detroit to Heathrow using Delta.  Has anyone else flown their dog this route?  I made the reservation today-and the guy on the other line made me more nervous, as he sounded pretty clueless.

If you have flown this route, do you remember where the cargo drop off is??

Also he mentioned something about a special water dispenser, what is this?

How did you guys prepare your dog for travel, he didn't give me any regulations about flying with delta...but i know other airline send detailed e-mails and things.

Thanks for any help :) Can't wait to see my pooch!!

My dog did not fly this route (and did not fly with Delta), so I cant offer any reassurance except that the people who take your reservation are not the people who will be handling your dog, so dont base too much on them.

Here's the requirements and regulations for Delta: http://www.delta.com/planning_reservations/special_travel_needs/pet_travel_information/pet_requirements_restrictions/index.jsp

Our dog flew this route on Delta in January.

The water thing means water and food dishes which clip to the kennel door so that they can be filled from outside the kennel.

The cargo terminal in Detroit is not hard to find.  Call Delta back and have them give you the terminal phone number and detailed directions to the terminal.  They have them in the system.

Also, call DEFRA to make sure that a someone will be there to receive your dog.  Make sure that you give them your dogs flight number, arrival time, and terminal.  Delta did not notify DEFRA that my dog was coming and he was held three extra days with extra vet bills for more tick/worm treatments.

Make sure you have your pet relocation people in the loop to so they can maybe even partially earn their huge fee.

Good luck!
