I just found out today that I'm going to the US for a business trip in a week.

I've been browsing Google for options to get travel medical insurance (I have pre-existing conditions), but am finding that the eligibility requirements mention being a permanent resident in the UK.  I am on a spouse visa and don't have ILR yet.

Any suggestions on what to do?  Has anyone else been in a similar situation, and if so, did you manage to find a decent company to cover you?

Many thanks in advance!

I got cover with a pre-existing condition and being here on FLR(M) through Direct Travel.  It adds quite a bit to the premium to be covered for pre-existing and you need to call and give them details of everything (can't do it online) but I have been happy with them so far.

I too don't have ILR and I do have pre-existing conditions and I have had luck with both Virgin Travel and American Express travel.  You usually have to call though and go through a series of questions.  Good luck!!

I was supremely impressed with Columbus for travel insurance. I used them last year to travel to the States 14 months after my bone marrow transplant, and their online survey for pre-existing conditions was really well done, and the questions were targeted to my condition (mine's quite rare and it was included in their database). They were also some orders of magnitude cheaper than the speciality travel insurers where I had to ring up to get a quote.

Here's the section for getting a quote on pre-existing conditions.
