So this is probably a dumb question, but what is the proper order/timeline/cost for getting married in the UK? I'm so confused on the whole process, but am trying to consider the overall costs involved...I'm currently in the UK as a student, and am considering either the Tier 1-Post Study Work Visa (I will have finished my program before this route closes in 2012) or a Spousal Visa (given the future abolition of CoA's).
From Nottingham's Council Website, I think I've gotten some of the gist of things, but I would greatly appreciate if someone can help me out/point out any errors/clarify some points.
1. Make Provisional Appointment. --I'm guessing this means to basically hire a venue for the wedding? The Council House has one room for £75, but are there any places to have a wedding that are free? Our short but sweet wedding would just be the two of us and our 2 witnesses.
2. Give Notice to Marry in person (£67.00/ or £33.50 each), including details of wedding location, and other legal mumbo-jumbo?
3. Wait at least 15 days.
4. Hold ceremony at previously booked place.
I also saw that there were fees for a) registration of the marriage, b) attendance of the registration officers, and c) the marriage certificate, but that these details wouldn't be fully spelled out until my provisional appointment.... I'm just wondering if anyone can give me a ballpark estimate of what the costs are for these items as well.
I also wanted to double check that I can actually get married whilst here on a Tier 4- Student Visa, and that I would be able to switch into a Spousal Visa afterwards. But if so, when would I switch into the Spouse category/file a Set(M)? Do I wait until my student visa runs out (Jan. 2012), or apply as soon as I meet all the requirements for the spousal visa?
Thanks in advance for your help!
