US: NY State Senate approves gay marriage bill!
« on: June 25, 2011, 05:59:13 AM »
The NYS Senate approved a gay marriage bill tonight. The Assembly has already passed the bill and so it's just for Gov. Cuomo to sign, which he presumably will. WOOOHOOOOO! So happy, it's really about time! :)

My bad, Andrew Cuomo signed it tonight as well. So it'll take effect in 30 days.

Great news! Well done NY!
I urge you to please notice when you are happy, and exclaim or murmur or think at some point, 'If this isn't nice, I don't know what is.' Kurt Vonnegut

Now, if only Congress could put through a bill allowing me to move back to the States with my partner then we'd be making progress.  This does nothing for those of us who are forced to emigrate abroad to a country that recognizes gay partnerships.  Not to say that I don't love living here because I do!  But it would be nice to be able to live in both places knowing we are protected equally as other mixed-nationality straight couples currently are.

Good job, New York.  The more states that allow this, the closer we are to federal recognition.

I just saw something about this somewhere... wish I could remember where exactly...

Ah, here it is:

My friend is the Blade editor so I get their news feed. It may not happen in the next year or two, but I think the tide has finally turned on this. Once more states legalize gay marriage, other issues can be addressed that relate to that.

I hope. :)
When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down ‘happy’. They told me I didn’t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn’t understand life. ~ John Lennon
