Greetings from FL.. I know, not really a Yankee state :L
« on: June 24, 2011, 09:03:31 PM »
Hi all, my name is Mary Grace. I'm 20 and I am currently living in Lincolnshire, England. If anyone lives anywhere close by, please please please let me know what you do with your free time because I'm dying of boredom (there's only so many times you can gaze out at open fields in admiration).

Anyways I would love to get to know you all and how I can utilize this website to its full potential :)

Welcome to UKY!

You don't have to be from the north to enjoy UK-Yankee, it's for everybody!  There's a fare share of people from everywhere on here, so hopefully you'll meet a few to help pass the time in boring old Lincolnshire :)

Never actually been in Lincolnshire, and had to google it to find out where it was!, but hopefully someone here will help you find some new fun activities.  Have you considered volunteering, or taking up a new activity? There's a UKY Ramblers thread around here somewhere, maybe you can walk around those open fields rather than gaze in awe... Have a look around, I'm almost certain you'll find something helpful :)

Hi Mary Grace!

Welcome! I'm from Florida too, and will be moving to London in August. What brought you to England?

I was offered a position as an au pair for a family here so I decided to take a break from American life and observe life across the pond. What brings you to England? What part of Florida are you from?

I'm from Jacksonville, and I am moving back to London after two stints on the old BUNAC program. I'm a dual American and Italian citizen, so I don't need to worry about visas (I didn't have my Italian passport back when I did BUNAC). I just love England and have always wanted to come back.

Heh. Outside the US, we're ALL Yankees (oh, my granny would be so horrified).

Or did you think when they spraypaint "Yankee Go Home!" on our embassies, they were just mad at Bostonians?

Hi & welcome to UKY Mary Grace!  I'm originally from Ohio, living in South Yorkshire.

I'm not far from parts of Lincolnshire (I live on the Lincolcn to Doncaster train route), and work in Retford, Notts, which isn't far from Gainsborough, Lincs.  If you're not far from Gainsborough, you may like the farmer's market held at Neal's Yard Shopping Centre on the 2nd & 4th Saturday of every month.  It's not massive, but what is there isn't too bad, plus the shopping centre's pretty good too.

If you're near Scunthorpe you may like the Pink Pig Farm, especially with the kids if you're an au pair.  Also, the Old Farmhouse Pub / Restaurant in Scunthorpe's pretty good.  Plus, they have a soft play barn attached to keep the kids occupied.
