I don't have a prepaid card recommendation but a couple of alternatives that might interest you. The first one 1899 you sign up for and it gives you phone calls to the states for 1p a minute from your landline. http://www.1899.com/rates.php

Another option is  a lot of phone companies have free calls to the states if you pay a flat monthly rate-- usually about £5-- I know sky has this and bt

I usually use Stanacard: https://www.stanacard.com

I used it when I was in the US to call my husband here in the UK and now I do it to call family and friends in the US.

I like it because it assigns you with a local number but it calls directly the US so you don't have to enter their whole number or any pin numbers. Also you also get bonuses if you recommend or get recommended by someone when you sign up. I think the first time you get $10 bonus or something like that.

HA! Oh, thank you!

I'm SOOOOOOO confused, in general, about everything... You should have seen me trying to figure out the oven.

I've only been in England for a few weeks!

Thank you!

HA! I had to google our oven to figure out how to turn it on! Ironically, most of the pages came up with the same question but no answer. That was a frustrating half hour!  ;D

If you have a mic or webcam, you can get the International Skype Subscription.  It was $14/month for me and I can talk whenever I want, as long as I want (3 hour increments, so you just hang up and call right back) without paying anything extra.  Also, I got a NY based number that people can call me on so that its not an international call on their end.

Its good for both landlines and cell phones in the US and its to any of the 40 countries on their list (for some countries you can only call land lines).  Obviously if you are calling a regular phone number it will only be audio :)

Similar to Talk Talk, Sky offers Talk Unlimited.  It's less than £18 a month, including line rental (which is something you'd need to pay on top of Talk Talk's £3), and may be cheaper with a bundle of satellite/internet.  You can call the US (and other countries) for free provided you hang up before an hour's up and ring back:

Hi

In case you are still looking, I use YourCallWorld as USA calls if you open an account with them are 1 pence/minute, which is approx 1.6 Cents/min.

http://www.yourcallworld.com/cheap-international-calls-to-USA

You can call a local access number here in the UK, so if you have say X amount of minutes on a mobile phone, you can use those minutes up to access the service.

If you do get a home landline, and pay the deal for free UK calls then you can use that and save your mobile minutes.

Cheers, DtM!

0.5p per minute, so less than 1c per minute, that's the cheapest out there.
