Source for reading pillows?
« on: September 12, 2011, 12:08:10 AM »
Does anyone have any idea where I might be able to locate a reading pillow (y'know, those odd-shaped ones with the arms that students used in the dorms back in college; e.g., ) in the UK, either online or off?

Amazon and eBay UK aren't turning up much.

Thanks in advance!

I have always called those "husbands" I just googled husband pillow and lots came up. I haven't been looking for one recently, but I have seen them at little shops, however I have a V shaped pillow that I got at Dunelm Mill that for me, serves the same purpose. I always had Husbands at home, but I personally find the V pillow better for reading or watching tv in bed

good luck!

Yup, I always called them husbands too. But when I Googled, I didn't find any in the UK. Plenty of search results, but all US ones. What does your V pillow look like, racheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee?

Here is my bed, all ready for me to go to the land of nod. Not. My bed is unmade and usually has a small child in it.

Husbands?!  So that's what they're called, huh?  I'd never heard that; wonder if it's a regional thing?  I also wonder what sort of reaction this thread would've got if I'd substituted 'husbands' for 'reading pillows' in the subject line originally. ;D

Anyway, thanks for the replies.  The 'V' pillow sounds promising, though how is it for lower back support, racheeeee?

I've seen those V pillows, and I want one so badly.  There's ones with longer "arms" as well, so you can drape them over your lap or play around with them to get them in a good position, if you need it.

I also had no idea that the other thing was called a "husband".  I had one in high school and just called it a backrest.  :)

Not sure if it helps but I was introduced to these as 'nursing pillows' for support when breastfeeding.

The V pillow is great for me all over and I have two herniated discs. They are like £8 at Dunelm Mill, a great investment!!!

I had only heard of them as 'boyfriend' pillows. Don't know if that was a regional thing or just me!

Maybe your pillows were more afraid of commitment than mine were.  ;)

Just as a follow-up, after much googling, I finally settled on one of these

and I've been pleased with it.  Like any decent 'husband', it does the job. ;)
