Hi everyone!

First, I can't believe there are so many Idaho people here. I'm not alone! I came to you guys through Reddit and I'm really happy that I have. I may have been living here for the last three years but it's difficult to be away from the people you're culturally familiar with - always nice to talk to a Yank!

A bit of background- I met my husband online in 2003 and we were married in 2008. I'm working and have settled as well as can be expected but have not been home since.

I look forward to some good conversation :)

Where in Idaho are you from?  I'm from near Moscow.

I think hanging out with people from your own country, or at least other foreigners, can be refreshing.  Obviously you don't want to only hang out with people just like you, but they will get your references to TV shows which aren't Friends, and not curl their lip when you say that you put peanut butter on celery or apples.  I was so thrilled on here when I found out I wasn't the only person struggling to flush a British toilet! : )

Had to reply to the Friends and toilet comment! My boyfriend always says "that has to be American, it was on Friends!" I don't think I will ever understand the obsession. The whole toilet thing... I struggle with it every time I visit. It makes it even more embarrassing that when it unsuccessfully flushes you can hear it from the other room! I overhead my boyfriend's mum saying to him "Have you told Amanda how the toilet works?" I hid in the "bathroom" for another 5 minutes after that!

Ugh. I could never flush our toilet in London. Which was bad, because that was the beginning of our relationship. You really don't want to impress a guy with, "honey, I made a boom-boom! Help me flush?"

Our main toilet now is push button flush. Lookit me, I'm Jane Jetson!
