Yes, Chary, I got on last night. It turns out it was a stupid error on my part... when I was first invited I used the link from my invite to try to get on and it WAS at capacity... but after that I kept trying to get on just from the Google+ home page, not from the link in my invite email.

Duh.

I knew it wasn't a location thing as people in my area were getting on just fine.

Now I need to try to figure this all out!
When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down ‘happy’. They told me I didn’t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn’t understand life. ~ John Lennon

Yes!

Though now I'm getting continuous "Error loading settings" and other error messages at the top of the site whenever I try to add my first friend (my inviter) to a circle. *sigh*  ::)

Edit: FINALLY! The idiotic thing logged me out without telling the rest of the site. There's a reason it's still in Beta...

Yeah, I tried to get my contacts added from Yahoo and it gave me an error message. I got an email from Yahoo saying it had worked but the list has yet to show up in Google+! ::)

I think you can tag in Google +, but I'm not sure how/if it shows up in the same way?  I haven't really done much with the photos because there are not that many people on it just yet!

Picasa has tagging (and I believe had it before FB) and face-recognition.

Has anyone played around with privacy setting yet? I've had a Yahoo email address for donkeys years that I use for all personal stuff. My Gmail addy was set up as a back up for my teaching jobs (the school I taught at had notoriously unreliable email). So my past students have my Gmail address and I guess, can easily find me. Can they see my G+ activities or do I have to add them to circles first? Can I keep them from finding me at all?

You can make yourself unsearchable, but then nobody can find you. They won't see anything you post if they add you to circles but you don't add back, unless you make a post public.
Arrived as student 9/2003; Renewed student visa 9/2006; Applied for HSMP approval 1/2008; HSMP approved 3/2008; Tier 1 General FLR received 4/2008; FLR(M) Unmarried partner approved (in-person) 27/8/2009; ILR granted at in-person PEO appointment 1/8/2011; Applied for citizenship at Edinburgh NCS 31/10/2011; Citizenship approval received 4/2/2012

Thanks. I am, in theory, unsearchable on FB but people find me because they see my posts on mutual friends' pages. I think I have to block people specifically there in order to have them not see things I post on public pages or on mutual friends' pages. I can live with that and am glad G+ seems similar.

Yeah, on G+ there isn't a wall as such, so you can only post to something a friend has posted. That cuts down one source of finding anyway.
