stafford loans
« on: August 10, 2011, 10:56:11 AM »
Hi guys,

Me again trying to desperately transfer! So I've been refused for year 3 almost everywhere. A few places have offered to put me back on year 2 which I'm actually fine with. Will that cause a problem in the stafford loan realm? Will they allow me to repeat a year and fund me through it? Thanks for any help!

I have no experience with this, but I don't see why it would be a problem.. A lot of students in the US take 4.5-5 years to complete their undergrad degrees, so I don't see why it would be a problem. I'm purely guessing the US Stafford Loans don't fully follow the UK Education system, so they won't realize that you're repeating your second year.

Also, I don't think the UK student loans system even has a problem with students repeating years, as my DB switched courses after his first year, and had to start from Year 1 again.

I think the main thing to be concerned about is the deadlines for getting the loans.  I can't remember when it is...

I don't see why it would be a problem. Lots of people in the US take an extra year because of changing majors or having to repeat classes they failed. As long as you keep filling out a FAFSA you should keep getting money. They're not interested in your grades, just that you're enrolled.
Arrived as student 9/2003; Renewed student visa 9/2006; Applied for HSMP approval 1/2008; HSMP approved 3/2008; Tier 1 General FLR received 4/2008; FLR(M) Unmarried partner approved (in-person) 27/8/2009; ILR granted at in-person PEO appointment 1/8/2011; Applied for citizenship at Edinburgh NCS 31/10/2011; Citizenship approval received 4/2/2012
