Grain-free dog food
« on: August 19, 2011, 06:18:30 PM »
I currently feed my dog Wellness CORE.  It's a grain-free, high protein kibble.  I'm almost positive they don't sell it in the UK.  What would be the equivalent over there?  Better yet...is there a dog food review website for UK brands?  :)

I feed my goldie Orijen, which is a high protein grain-free food.  It's 70-80% meat, depending on the specific variety.  Unfortunately, it doesn't tend to be sold in supermarkets or ordinary pet shops like Pets At Home, but you can buy it online.  I get ours from a dedicated pet food supply store that happens to be nearby.

Other dog food that have been recommended to me as high quality, but which I've never tried, are Arden Grange, Burns, and Fish4Dogs.

I don't know if I'm allowed to say this here, but there is a lively dog discussion board on Mumsnet (The Doghouse).

I feed my dog partially with Acana which is made by the same company as Orijen.  They've found that some dogs don't do well with Orijen and have kidney problems.  they don't with Acana (feed my cat Acana too).  I then feed doggy raw.  Kibble in the am and raw in the pm.  In the uk, I fed him Burns but I know you could get orijen at our petstore (It's made in Canada).  The raw I also got at the petstore; we bought it frozen.

Our petstore in the UK was just a little family business in our village but they carried all the high quality, hard to get brands.

I think quite a bit of people here have been switching to the raw meat diet, but I think for dogs they add veggies (not quite sure, though).

I have been feeding my cat on NI, and it's been great! :)

Thanks everyone!  I will have to do some more research and check out some of the brands listed.  :)
