Dog agility in the North East
« on: August 10, 2011, 06:04:57 PM »
Although it's not exactly a true "sport", I participate in dog agility with my Sheltie.  We'll be moving (hopefully) this winter to Durham.  I'd like to get him started in classes or involved in a club as soon as possible.  It makes me sad to have to sell our mini course I built here in the States (it really is a doggie playground).  :-\\\\

I found one place called "The Doghouse" in Seeham.  Anyone else have any suggestions?  I know this is a somewhat specialized activity that not many people participate in.   :)

We lived in Durham for 3 years (moved away 2 years ago) and joined an agility club just for fun.  It's called Easington but they moved their field to just outside of Durham.  The were a great group, very friendly and I still keep in contact with the main contact organizer.  The run a show each year and as some are very competitive other just show up for fun.  Let me know if you have trouble getting their info and I can help you.

Oh-- we joined with a 7 year old cocker spaniel and he did great for never knowing anything before.  Everyone was very supportive and fun

Thanks so much!  I think I found the one you're referring to...is this it? http://www.easingtondogtrainingsociety.co.uk/

My Sheltie will be 4 years old and already knows all of the equipment.  Although I'm sure there are a few differences!  Good to know that the dog agility community is friendly over there though.  :)

Yes that's the one.  The used to practice on Sundays in Easington and had to find a new field so they were using a place much closer to Durham.  I think it was 50p each time and the ask that you help out with the show a little if you can.  The group was really nice, Lisa is probably the main contact still.

Let me know if you have more questions about Durham in general too!!!

I'm Jess's fiancĂ© and I recently moved to Durham.  Coxhoe - where that agility club meets - is only around 10 minutes away :)

I'm from Sunderland but I spent three years at Durham University between 1995 and 1998.  I love Durham :)

I'll make sure we say "Hello" for you :)
