Hello everyone.. I'm Angel! Newbie to this forum and learning all about the UK. I'm looking forward to learning a lot, meeting new people, hearing others experiences and so forth. A little about me: I'm American (well obviously) hehe, California is where I call home, but looking to move over to England soon. I have a 6 year old little girl (from my previous relationship) and I'm a freelance makeup artist. I've been in love with the UK and all it has to offer ever since I was a little girl and now I'm looking to finally make it my home in the near future. I met and fell in love with my boyfriend this year (he resides in the UK), he's English and the most amazing man I know. We were originally going to have him move out here, since it would be easier for him then me, but we're having a hard time trying to find him a job in his field. Also not too sure if said job would sponsor him. So we talked about it and I'm gonna try to make the move out there in the next 6-9 months. Any and all advice, tips, ideas etc. would be really appreciated. This isn't just a BIG step for me, but my daughter as well. She has autism and making sure the school she attends has a class for special needs is a MAJOR concern of mine. Also finding her an ABA, Speech and OT therapist too. If anybody has a similar situation to mine please fill me in on what challenges may lie ahead for me. Thanks for reading my post!

Hello from way up north in Lompoc. Making the move with my 1yo daughter this September! Def thinking about her transition to a different life, but you have way more going on in that area obv.

Hello exotikaj.. I'm in Carlsbad =) I'm looking to move there within a year, hoping to visit for a few months and then apply for the K1 Fiance Visa. We're also looking to move near London as well.. Have you guys been looking at areas to live in London? Have you found any good ones?

Hi & welcome to UKY Angel!

This should help gain some direction for finding help for your daughter: http://www.nottingham.gov.uk/index.aspx?articleid=559  If you click on the link, there's an email address for someone who would be able to help get you specific information to help you along, and hopefully help aid in the transition for your daughter.

You may also want to start looking at schools within the catchment area you'll be living to see if any of them have Special Education programs in the schools.  I believe, all schools will have a liason officer (or some other official title) to help your daughter along, but some schools have specific Special Education departments.

If your OH were in northern Nottinghamshire, I would recommend St. Giles School in Retford.  (http://www.st-giles.notts.sch.uk/sen.html).  I know one of the ladies who works there in the SE department, and she's worked there for at least 10 years.  But, Retford's quite a ways away from Nottingham itself.   :P

I was born in Liverpool but raised in San Diego (Escondido) Now living back in Liverpool. My son was diagnosed with aspergers and he is doing great over here in the UK.
