Health Cert & Flea Treatment Qs
« on: September 19, 2011, 05:52:29 PM »
I will be flying into Manchester in about 3weeks with my cats. I'll be going with Continental and they say they need a health certificate dated within 10 days of flying. I assume that means my vet can simply supply this cert and it doesn't have to be signed off by the APHIS vet?

I know that I have to use a specific tapeworm treatment that contains praziquantel, but is there a specific requirement for which flea/tick treatment I need to use? I usually use Frontline Plus on them. Can I simply have my vet use that on them?

On the whole timing thing. If my cats flight leaves at 9:30am on a Sunday, and they have to be checked in at 7:30am, then I need to have the flea/tick/tapeworm treatment before 7:30am Saturday morning, or sometime after 7:30am on Friday?

You'll need to ask Continental what they require for the health certificate. Both airlines I've used (one domestic, one to the UK) required a health certificate, signed only by my vet. Other posters have reported needing the USDA vet to sign off, though.

I don't think there's any requirement for which tick treatment to use, provided it's a standard one (i.e. not some random snake oil-type treatment sold in a shack).

If you check in at 7:30am Sunday, you have from 7:30am Friday to 7:30am Saturday to get the tick/tapeworm stuff done.

Good luck! :)
